Through the competitive bidding process, A. F. Smith Electric, Inc. was awarded the contract to perform the entire scope of electrical work associated with the Washtenaw Community College – Morris Lawrence Building Renovation with Stenco Construction Co.
The Morris Lawrence Building is a vital conference and community resource center that is also home to Towsley Auditorium. The project consisted of a complete renovation of the entire building.
For A.F. Smith Electric Inc., this included replacing the electrical distribution substation in its entirety, all new electrical distribution panels and feeders, new feeders to new mechanical equipment, all new lighting and lighting control, a new fire alarm system to replace the existing one, all new data cabling distribution, all new branch power and devices - as well as many other smaller aspects.
This was a very interesting project as there were many challenging existing conditions to work around. Additionally, there was a very precise deadline to meet, which in today's times of material and equipment shortages and delays can be difficult.
With the efforts of Andrea Van Valkenburg as Project Manager, Joey Scanlon as Superintendent and Brian Ellison as Project Foreman, this successful project was completed on-time and left the client very happy. A.F. Smith Electric Inc. is proud to have contributed to an important project that benefits the community.
