We love highlighting the outstanding members of our team. This month, we are spotlighting Meagan Westcott, A.F. Smith Electric Accounts Payable and Service Work Billing Manager. Meagan is celebrating 24 years with us this year.
Q: What is your role at A.F. Smith Electric (AFSE)?
A: I am the Accounts Payable and Service Work Billing Manager for our team. I work in the accounting department and oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable for time and material and small bids.
Q: How long have you worked at AFSE?
A: I’ve worked at AFSE since 1997. I started working here a month after I turned 21 when a former staff member presented the position to me. The company offered me the flexibility I wanted to establish and raise my family. I’m able to work full time and, at the same time, be a mom and go to my kids’ school and sporting events. I’ve been able to have a wonderful work and family life balance here, and I’m very grateful for it.
Q: Describe AFSE in five words or less.
A: Hardworking. Family oriented. Camaraderie. Upbeat.
Q: What does being on the AFSE team mean to you?
A: I’ve grown up here, so this company and our team mean the world to me. I came in as a single person, and in the time I've worked here, I got married, had three kids and built a house.
When you join the A.F. Smith Electric team, you gain more than just a job — you also gain an extended family.
Q: What do you wish people knew about AFSE?
A: I think the biggest thing is everyone takes pride in what they do here. Whether it’s a six hour day or a 14 hour day, our team gives it their all. All of our departments work together — everyone from the field guys to the office personnel collaborate to make everything run as smooth as possible.
Q: Who have been your strongest influences in life?
A: My parents are both hardworking and dedicated. They made their careers and family life mesh and were always supportive. They showed me how to balance everything that comes my way in life.
Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing, personally and professionally?
A: I am most proud of having a strong family life. My husband and I have been married for 20 years. Our three kids — 13, 15 and 17 — are in many sports and do well in school. They’re growing up right before our eyes. I don’t know if I would have the same opportunities for my family if I wasn’t part of the team here for the past two decades.
Q: What is your favorite memory of working at AFSE?
A: I have so many great memories from working here the past 24 years. I always enjoy our Christmas parties and other team gatherings. You get to see everyone outside of the workplace and socialize with them in a different setting.
