Each summer, something big happens in our backyard: the National Training Institute (NTI) takes over the Washtenaw Community College campus. NTI is the top national conference for electrical instructors, and our customers benefit from it every single day.
At A.F. Smith Electric, quality and safety aren’t just promises — they’re deliverables. And the reason we can deliver is because our team is trained to the highest standards in the industry. NTI plays a huge role in that. This annual gathering gives the instructors who train our electricians the tools, techniques, and insights to stay ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving industry.
From the latest code updates to hands-on sessions with new technologies, NTI equips our educators to bring the latest best practices back to our local training center. That means our apprentices get the benefit of national expertise, while training right here under local instructors.
NTI is also a powerful reminder of the value NECA contractors bring to the table. Our training isn’t a cost to taxpayers. It’s funded by IBEW and NECA because we believe in doing the job right the first time — and keeping our people safe while doing it.
When you hire A.F. Smith, you’re hiring a team that invests in continuous learning. Our electricians are ready for the complex systems, energy-efficient upgrades, and electrification projects that define today’s building needs. And we stay ready because our people never stop learning.
We’re proud to support NTI, and proud that this event happens right here in Ann Arbor. It reflects the level of training and commitment we bring to every job site.
So even if you never hear about NTI again, just know: the next time you see an A.F. Smith crew on the job, they’ve got the knowledge, safety training, and expertise to get the job done right.
